Mathematical notation:

exp( x ) = e^x

e.g. e (2.7182818...) raised to the power of x.

Example: (Discrete Fourier Transform)
H( f ) = Σ_t=0^N-1 h( t ) exp( j 2π f t / N )

Exp. is also used to abbreviate experience, such as in RPGs.
