dance craze

A mass mania over a new dance. It may be as old as history - the French Revolution is synonymous with the waltz. Isn't it? In modern days, it usually has underground roots but gets appropriated by the corporates - e.g., The Twist was originally just some dance steps some black kids in Philadelphia did. Won't you Mashed Potatoes, Watusi, Hustle, Boogaloo, Swim, Chalypso, Stroll, Freddy, Bump, Cha-Cha-Cha, Bossa, and Electric Slide with me?

Also the name of a 1980 2-Tone film.
