Derived from the French past participle dégager, to disengage, dégagé is an adjective synonymous with unconstrained, easy, and free. While someone with a blasé attitude may appear dégagé, it is only because s/he has overindulged in some pleasure. The truly dégagé person is like a cork in the lake, carelessly floating wherever the fates may desire.
