Latin for with a grain of salt. Refers to something said or written half seriously, half jokingly.

The origin of this expression is rather interesting. Salt is cheap now, but in the ancient world it was a valuable commodity. The English word "salary" comes directly from the latin "salarium" which was the money Roman soldiers got to buy salt so they wouldn't get hyponatremia.
