The face of the hammer is literally machined to have dozens of sharp points, ostensibly for gripping the heads of struck nails better. Terribly useful when you hit the nailhead, terribly bloody when you hit your own flesh.
Not quite as dangerous as a Senco air-powered nailgun, though.
