A small bird, scientific name Parus caeruleus, the most common member of the tit family, widely found across Britain and northern Europe. Its preferred habitat is deciduous forests, gardens and hedgerows. Grows to about 5 inches (12 centimetres) in size, with vivid blue and yellow markings which make it instantly recognisable.

Like many small finch-like birds, it has readily adapted to modern human society (although it doesn't like cities), and will often be found at bird tables. This is helped by its omnivorous diet: it will eat a combination of seeds, insects and their larvae.
