| The additional serving of beer that accompanies a shot of hard liquor, typically bourbon or other whiskey, but also certain liqueurs such as Jägermeister. Usually a mild-tasting beer is chosen, though stronger-flavoured beers can greatly enhance the enjoyment of a strong whiskey. A beer back can be either a full 12 oz glass or a 6-8 oz tumbler, in which case it is a short beer back. Depending on where you are, the combination may be referred to as "a beer and a belt" or "a beer and a bump" or some other colourful phrase. Boilermaker is specifically the beer and whiskey combination. |
