arcsecond

An angular distance equal to 1/3600th of a degree, which is itself 1/360th of a full circle. An arcsecond is a very small angle indeed, roughly equal to the size of a quarter seen from a kilometer away.

Arcseconds are commonly used in astronomy. A good ground-based telescope can resolve objects that are separated by about one arcsecond.
