A classic Usenet group notable for the quirk of requiring all posts to be approved by the moderator, who happens to not exist. So the very act of posting requires hacking your message to look as if it has been moderator-approved. This self-selection of posters has resulted in a remarkably low amount of Spam and a remarkably high signal to noise ratio.

Posts to alt.hackers are required to include an ObHack. You can respond to someone else's post, but you're expected to include a cool hack of your own with every post. This keeps the traffic quite low. In recent months this restriction has been eased to try to increase the traffic a bit and to reclaim the group from the Italians.
