| A town in the Czech Republic on the Dyje river, near the Austrian border. Founded in the 11th century, it was used as stronhold of the Premyslid princes.
In 1809, Archduke Charles of Austria met Napoleon in Znojmo to arrange an armistice after his defeat to the French in the Battle of Wagram.
Today it is home to approximately 40,000 people and is designated an ancient monument.
