| A 1964 45 by The Kinks; the sound of a young band discovering its voice. Worlds away from their debut, a just-OK cover of Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally". This time around, Ray Davies finds a way to ooze sexuality, rather than just try to appropriate/approximate the Penniman Mojo. Similarly, the band, with a classic Neanderthal riff, and the newfound timbre of Dave Davies' distorted guitar, were freed from faux-R'n'B. Van Halen's cover was like The Kinks' "Long Tall Sally". |
