In 1974 Nippon Animation (then Zuiyo Enterprises) began to create series to be televised domestically in Japan. The series were to be children's series - based on childrens books popular at the time, but since this was anime grownups have found themselves equally able to watch what was produced over the years. The series were to be collectively called Sekai Meisaku Gekijou - World Masterpiece Theatre (WMT).
The collection included, among others:
Arupusu no Shoujo Haiji (Heidi, Girl of the Alps), 6 January 1974 - 29 December 1974. This series ran for 52 episodes and had Isao Takahata directing, and Hayao Miyazaki in scene design and scene organization.
Furandaazu no Inu (A Dog of Flanders), 5 January 1975 - 28 December 1975. This series ran for 52 episodes and had Isao Takahata doing direction and story boards, and Hayao Miyazaki in key animation - both of them only in the 15th episode.
Haha wo Tazunete Sanzen Ri (3000 Leagues in Search of Mother), 4 January 1976 - 26 December 1976. This series ran for 52 episodes and had Isao Takahata directing, and Hayao Miyazaki in scene design and scene organization.
Araiguma Rasukaru (Rascal the Raccoon), 2 January 1977 - 25 December 1977. This series ran for 52 episodes, and had Hayao Miyazaki doing key animation in a number of episodes.
Periinu Monogatari (Perinne's Story), 1 January 1978 - 31 December 1978. This series ran for 53 episodes, and had Isao Takahata doing storyboards in a couple of episodes.
Akage no An (Anne of Green Gables), 7 January 1979 - 30 December 1979. This series ran for 50 episodes, and had Isao Takahata directing and doing screenplay, and Hayao Miyazaki in scene design and scene organization.
