The Wind Fish in name only, for it is neither.
The Wind Fish is a large winged whale that sleeps inside the egg atop Koholint's Mt. Tamaranch in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. When Link washes ashore on the island he is told that he cannot leave Koholint as long as the Wind Fish sleeps inside the egg. The only way to wake the mighty beast is to slay the eight Nightmares that live in the eight dungeons on the island. Before the Wind Fish awakens the Nightmares will take one last stab at stopping Link - they take on the forms of some of his greatest foes, including Agahnim the wizard and the evil Ganon himself. If he succeeds in slaying them, the Wind Fish will awaken and Koholint will fade into memory, for the entire land was simply a part of his dream. The Wind Fish then flies away off into the horizon. |
