Poets agree that when seeking a rhyme
It is best
To rest
On a stone for a time.
Or when lacking a stone to remember, in lieu
Of the same, that a small sort of boulder will do.
And when firmly established on cairn of good measure,
To doze
In repose
And imagine at leisure
That one is a ven'rable poet who touches
With ease upon similes, spondees, and suches.
And this is the reason, I'm sorry to say,
Why the landscape is littered with poets today.
Each wisely ignoring that once he aspired
To become something other than "Poet, Retired."
