The unofficial motto of the University of Chicago. The University's official motto is "Crescat Scientia Vita Excolatur," or "Let knowledge grow from more to more, and so be human life enriched." This official motto is engraved upon a metal plate set in the floor of the student union, and legend has it that if anyone treads upon it, they will not graduate.
