| This is the mantra of various Linux standardization groups. Whenever they are faced with a tough decision, they just ask themselves "What would Solaris do?" This can be used to rationalize all sorts of stupid crap like making new top-level directories, renaming things, moving around the locations of files that were happy where they were.
When I think of WWSD, I am reminded of the Linux Standards Base. Read their rationales sometimes and you'll see that everything goes back to Solaris. But you've got to wonder why a Linux distribution should care about what Solaris does. We're not making a distribution of Solaris after all. Why can't we just decide something for ourselves instead of turning to our Sparc 5 and seeing what Solaris does?
I think we should make up all sorts of fashionable WWSD bracelets and hand them out at trade shows. |
