Born on 20 October 1958, in
Manhattan, New York, Viggo Mortensen has lived in Manhattan, Venezuela (from age 2 to 11), Argentina, Denmark, and Los Angeles, where he currently resides. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Danish (his father was from Denmark).
In 1980, Viggo received degrees from St. Lawrence University in Government and Spanish.
He married Exene Cervenka, the singer of the punk band X, and in 1987 they had a son, Henry Blake Mortensen. They are now divorced but on good terms, collaborating on musical projects.
While Viggo is best known as an actor, he is accomplished in several other forms of art, especially photography, poetry, music, and painting.
