| The original Ulm, in Germany, was first mentioned in the 9th century, and was called Pfalz Hulm (Castle Hulm), and was located on the Danube river. It has an approximate current population of 120000 people.
In the 14th century, a cathedral was built in the city of Ulm, and it became one of Germany's trade centres. Soon, a city constitution was written up, and Ulm became an imperial free city. It is currently ranked as the 8th best place to live in Germany by a Munich-based research group.
One of Germany's many Universities, Universität Ulm, is located in the city proper, and was founded in 1967. Ulm holds a World Record for having the tallest church spire, it being 161.5m tall. One of Ulm's more progressive radio stations is freeFM.
