This is the German version of the Killer Joke, as documented by those newshounds, the chaps from Monty Python's Flying Circus. Actually, I believe they used:

Two peanuts were walking down the strada, and one was assaulted                  (peanut)

*snicker*

Unfortunately for Hitler, this did not work well. The Allies, with their functional killer joke:

My dog's nose was cut off.

Awful!

were able to take most of the German army by surprise and win WW2.
