Sour Grapes (1921)
by
William Carlos Williams

Thursday

I have had my dream--like others--
and it has come to nothing, so that
I remain now carelessly
with feet planted on the ground
and look up at the sky--
feeling my clothes about me,
the weight of my body in my shoes,
the rim of my hat, air passing in and out
at my nose--and decide to dream no more.

Leaves are greygreen,
the glass broken, bright green.

Thursday is a hard-core band out of New Brunswick, NJ. If that town sounds familiar, it's probably because Saves the Day, Lifetime, and Midtown are also from there. Thursday, however, has an incredibly thick and mature sound for only being around for a couple years.

They formed when all of the members except for Geoff had been through the recent break-up of their last band, Turnbuckle. They traded instruments, picked up a singer (Geoff), and played. And play they did, eventually getting signed to Victory Records. They have toured with the likes of At the Drive-In, Hot Water Music, Saves the Day, and the Movielife.

Personal experience: I saw Thursday open up for Saves the Day in Providence, RI. I'd never heard them before then, but apparently, I was one of the few. The crowd was one of the rowdiest I've ever seen during their set, rivaling that of a Dropkick Murphys show in Boston on St. Patrick's Day. Needless to say, they kick some ass.

Thursday is:

  • Geoff: Vocals
  • Tom: Guitar
  • Steve: Guitar
  • Tim: Bass
  • Tucker: Drums
