Thirteen Ways of Looking at White was inspired (although it doesn't even come close in class!) by Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird. As with the original, this is in the form of 13 stanzas.
I
White,
bright,
too bright,
sunlight.
II
Why are you pure?
Black might be pure instead.
III
Snow falls,
White falls.
IV
White has ultimate control,
It can cover the land.
V
White is confusing,
Disorientating.
VI
It flies on the wind,
It is the wind.
VII
Is white pure? It can be easily soiled.
VIII
We go from dust to dust.
Dust was first and last.
Dust is not white...
Original Sin.
IX
Footprints,
Muddy abominations,
Foul the eternity of white.
X
I look at the blank page,
Willing words to flow from my pen and attatch themselves to it.
It stays white.
XI
White is cold and unforgiving.
You must be white.
XII
If there was no white,
Would there be racism?
XIII
Innocence, ignorance.
Either way,
Peace.
