This was a clever lyric, most recently heard in Everclear's everything to everyone, off of the so much for the afterglow album.
However, for months, nay, years afterward, I have seen people quoting this in their sig files and profiles, as if this were the most original piece of work they had seen, and had in fact proved their point.
These were, in fact, the people you would most say this phrase describes, though in the midst of their own pretentiousness they would never likely realize this, and in fact think that it describes all of the other marginally attentive folks around them who never quite "get it".
This is also a prime example of the concept of irony. |
