The Tao of Physics is a book by Fritjof Capra which is "an exploration of the parallels between modern physics and eastern mysticism". It was first published in 1975 when eastern religions were becoming something of a fad in the western world. The upturning of newtonian physics by scientific developments in the 20th century, especially relativity and quantum physics has led scientists to rethink on a fundamental level their view of the world. Capra believes that theorems like the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle show that the determinist, mechanist view of the conventional western world is flawed, and that the present state of modern physics is more closely related to eastern mystic philosophy than the logic so typical of western thought. |
