| Kruder and Dorfmeister - G-Stone Recordings - 1998
With this two-disk CD set Kruder and Dorfmeister have joined my pantheon of music gods. It's all very downtempo and leisurely, but the beats are in there. Throw in the wild variety of sources, and you've got remixing like no one else. Some people have thrown up acid jazz, drum and bass, and other assorted genres, but the truth is that Kruder and Dorfmeister really are in a category of their own. If you think all electronica is bleepy trance or ass-shaking house, listen to this and see what masters can do. The first CD is the best - I kept on switching to track 5 and 7 for Bomb the Bass's Bug Powder Dust and Depeche Mode's Useless, and the rest of the CD doesn't disappoint either. The second CD is still great though - Bone Thugs 'N Harmony's 1st Of Tha Month is indescrible after going through K&D's mixers, and Mama Oliver's Eastwood will keep the CD in your stereo as well. Only sore spot is the repeat of Bug Powder Dust, but the rest of the CD upholds K&D's honor. Decent packaging - a partial jewelcase for each CD as opposed to the usual dual-sided holder - and a decent foldout. Wonder whose crotch shot K&D so generously put on the inside? Where did they come up with these remix names?
