Every little .com these days creates an IPO buzz; it's the great innovation of the 90's. The amazing rises in the values of internet-related stocks brings this to mind. Corporations go to great lengths to create profits; it gets harder with each day (Sony has announced layoffs of 17,000 people as I write this). Yet AOL, Yahoo, amazon.com and others Do Just Fine without the untidy chore of profit-making. Metaphorical rose-colored crystal balls cost little to produce.
