The Grand Old Duke Of York

created by carou

(person) by carou (?) (print)   ?   (I like it!) Sat Nov 13 1999 at 9:41:40

Oh, the Grand Old Duke of York,
He had ten-thousand men,
He marched them up to the top of a hill,
And he marched them down again.

And when they were up, they were up.
And when they were down, they were down.
And when they were only half-way up,
They were neither up nor down.

You cannot truly enjoy the wonders of this song without having been summer camp staff. In addition to making the {annoying children|kids] sing ("I can't hear you, we'll have to sing it again, only this time, louder") ad nauseam , make sure that they stand and sit where appropriate in the song.
Then, play with tempo changes until it is so fast they don't know whether they are standing up or sitting down. Or try reversing the motions so on the word up they sit and on down they stand.
Once this has lost its amusement (for you, not them..they will never be amused by this...especially early in the morning *hint, hint*)try The Grand Old Captain Kirk.

Oh, by the way, its sung to the tune of The Farmer and the Dell.
