The basic meaning is that you don't have to argue with someone just because he solves a problem differently than you. As long as the results are the same, what does it matter how he solved the problem?

The grander meaning is that people with different ideals, beliefs, morals, or philosophies can come together, bonded by a common programming language without focusing on their differences.

Perhaps, if more people could live like Larry Wall codes perl, the world would be a much better place.
