| Largent was also a Hall of Fame wide receiver for the NFL's Seattle Seahawks from 1976-1989. When he retired, he held league records in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown catches (819, 13,089, and 100 respectively, all since broken by Jerry Rice).
His best season came in 1985, when he had 79 catches for 1287 yards (both career highs).
Since he spent his whole career playing for largely mediocre Seahawks teams, he rarely got the credit he deserved as one of the best receivers of his era.
After graduating from the University of Tulsa, he was drafted in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers. After a poor preseason, he was actually cut from the team. However, an assistant coach for Seattle had formerly coached Largent at Tulsa and convinced the Seahawks to trade an eighth-round pick for him. And of course, the rest is NFL recordbreaking history.
Largent played in 7 Pro Bowls and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. |
