Founded October 3, 1835 by Johan Sebastian Staedtler as a manufacturing plant that used modern steam-driven machinery. Today their products include drafting instruments and supplies, writing instruments including pencils, and art supplies. It employs over 3200 people worldwide (skeleton crew!).
