This Pink Floyd song is originally from the "Wish You Were Here" album, and consists of six parts - parts 1, 2 and 3 are on track 1 of the album, and parts 4, 5 and 6 are on track 5 (final).
The song (or more precisely the first 3 parts of it) is also featured on the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" live double LP (it is the opening track, all 10+ minutes of it, and listening to the live version makes you feel you wish you were there when it was performed - it is that good.
The first 3 parts are what is commonly referred to as "Shine on you Crazy Diamonds", and the first two parts are mainly a beautiful guitar/sax jam in minor keys, while parts 4 and 5 have a more jazzy feel to them. The last part of the song is very similar to part 3, as it features a similar vocal line and music backing. |
