Foodborne illness caused by
tuna,
bonito, and other members of the
mackerel family (susceptible to breakdown of
histidine in tissues by the
Proteus species). Symptoms include
nausea,
vomiting,
epigastric pain,
dysphagia, dry mouth, and
urticaria. Onset occurs minutes after
consumption of the
fish. Treat with
antihistamines.
