Restoring your Windows registry file

This writeup assumes that your computer has crashed and Windows 9x will not load.

  1. Put the bootable diskette that contains your registry backup file in the A: drive. To create such a diskette, refer to How to backup your Windows registry file.

  2. Restart your computer.

  3. The computer will boot off of the floppy drive. Type in PATH A:\; C:\; C:\WINDOWS; C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

  4. Type REGEDIT /C REGBACK

  5. Wait for the file to be imported.

  6. After it is finished, remove the floppy from the A: drive and reboot your computer.
