Lyricist extraordinaire. When he and Eric B. came out with My Melody and Eric B. for President, rap was revolutionized. Noted for his lackidaisical sounding voice, Rakim was the first rapper to make extensive use of a number of poetic devices, such as alliteration and assonance, along with extensive internal rhyming.
