Formed in 1992, Porno for Pyros's was Perry Farrell's band after Jane's Addiction broke up, which itself broke up after Jane's Addiction started gigging around again.
The other members were former Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins, Peter DiStefano on guitar, and Martyn LeNoble, bass.
The name comes from the L.A. Riots- see the lyrics above for more clarity. The L.A. Riots are also mentioned in the song Black Girlfriend.
In 1993 they put out a self-titled album, which was lukewarmly received. In it the band was clearly trying to distance itself from Jane's Addiction. Some of the songs had a much funkier feel than anything Jane's ever did, though there were more similarities than differences.
1996 saw Good God's Urge. It was more of a return to the Jane's Addiction sound. The 1997 tour for that album was their swan song- and a very interesting tour it was, because Mike Watt played some dates on the bass, and Dave Navarro played guitar on a few appearances as well.
