Soft rubber bag with a rubber tip for inflating the middle ear by increasing the pressure in the nasopharynx. Named for Adam Politzer, a Hungarian otologist. This doesn't seem to be performed by the younger doctors we've encountered, it must be an old doctor's trick. It's pretty simple, a bulb syringe is inserted in one nostril, a plastic tube with a cotton stopper leads from the other nostril down to a glass of water. The patient closes their throat and the bulb syringe is squeezed. The tube to the water prevents the over pressurization of the nasal cavities or eustachion tubes/ear drums. May open up clogged eustachion tubes if you're prone to that, usually gave me relief. An enhanced version of the Valsalva manouver.
