| We were supposed to go swing dancing after a little lesson at the Funhouse, but people started backing out, demurring, pleading tired and early morning work or interviews or classes. So - but no one left. People told stories. In the living room, they talked about runins with famous people. Tigger held forth on being a Ringling clown. In the kitchen, Anthea and Paul discussed the relative merits of Boston and Portland, moving plans, and the practical considerations necessary when thinking about purchasing a VW bus. Someone in there mentioned cookies. And you know me. So -
1/4 lb butter (one stick)
3/4 cup sugar (i used white)
creamed until smooth and nice, plus
1 egg
some vanilla extract
abt 1 tbsp milk or yogurt
some unsweetened coconut (small flake; people won't really notice it's there.)
mix thoroughly, and in another bowl blend together
1 1/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
and a pinch of salt
mix the dry and wet together, and arrange in spoonfuls about 1.5" apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake until the edges get brownish (depending how crunchy you like your cookies) in a 350° oven.
The consensus was that the dough tasted like eggnog and the cookies tasted like donuts, in a good way. People moved their conversations to the kitchen and hovered over the stove as i took them out of the oven and put them on racks.
