Patricia C. Wrede was born in Chicago in 1953. She graduated from Carleton College in 1974, with a degree in biology. She worked for several years as a financial analyst and accountant, writing books on the side. In 1985 she took up writing children's fantasy full time. At that time she already had had five books published.
Most of her books are 'serious' fantasy (as opposed to comic), but she is probably best known for her Dealing with Dragons and the other Enchanted Forest books. They are humorous, and good light reading, but not silly. They're a good bet for kids who like Harry Potter (and adults too, of course).
