Olympic Men's Ice Hockey medal winners

Ice hockey competitions in the Olympic games has a history dating back even further than the Olympic Winter Games themselves. The first Olympic medals awarded for ice hockey were at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium. This is a full 4 years before the first Winter Games were held in Chamonix, France. Cool huh?

Anyways, men's hockey is the one sport that people get the most worked up about, with a possible exception in 1994, with the whole Nancy Kerrigan / Tonya Harding thing. People get worked up about it because it's the one with the fiercest competition. You won't find cross country skiers hip-checking each other, alpine skiers tripping each other, or curlers hitting each other over the head with their brooms. Shame really, that'd be cool.

Anyhow, here's the results as of the end of the 2002 games in Salt Lake City. I'll update again in 4 years.

1: Russia's total includes all medals won by the Soviet Union, but not the one by the "Unified Team" that competed right after the break-up of the Soviet Union, since I believe they had a lot of the non Russian Eastern-Bloc players. The Czech Republic's total includes those won by Czechoslovakia.
