In Norse Mythology, Njord is the god of the wind, fire, and ocean. The Norse looked to him for good harvests and safe sea journeys and worship of him continued into the time of the Vikings. He became the husband of Skadi the giantess after the gods killed her father and was the father of Freyr and Freya with his sister (possibly Nerthus). His home is Noatun and he split up with Skadi in order to live there after attempting to split the time between his seaside home and her mountain home.

Originally, he was the chief of the Vanir but he gave is children to the Aesir after they made peace and was appointed a high priest with Freyr to oversee sacrifices.

In poetry, Njord is sometimes associated with Saturn and is also known as Njorth.
