Mariel Hemingway, film actress and granddaughter to the great nobel laureate Ernest Hemingway was born on 21st November, 1961, in Mill Valley, California, three months after her grandfather's suicide.
Her elder sister Margaux Hemingway had already gained popularity as a model, while Mariel entered her career. Margaux was just about to star in her first feature film, Lipstick (1976).
Though Margaux was not very successful in the industry, Mariel had only just begun the triumph. Her role in
"Manhattan" (1979), starring as Woody Allen's teenaged lover was a major breakthrough for her. She got an Oscar nomination as well, for the great performance. Her role in the "Personal Best" as a lesbian athlete was another notable one.
The breast enhancement and cosmetic surgery that she underwent in 1980, and her acting as nude ( appearing to be acting in the nude) in a TV serial were controversial news in the 80s.
Though her name was not much heard after that, she has always been there in the industry and has worked with a number of good movies.
She has a keen sense of business and has worked as an executive producer of the movie ," The Suicide Club". She has been the owner of a popular New York eating establishment, Sam's Place.
