Russian artist of the early 20th century, central to the futurist movement. Famous for his abstract compositions of geometric shapes and colours, perhaps the first definitive break with representational art. Designed costumes for Victory over the Sun, a futurist musical staged at Luna Park in St. Petersburg in 1913.
Little-known fact: The framed prints in the office of Heather Locklear's character on the TV soap Melrose Place are Malevich's costume designs for Victory over the Sun. |
