As far as I can remember, Wapner was the first television judge, hearing small-claims cases on The People's Court during the 1980s. Unlike today's Judge Judy, Judge Mills Lane, et al, Wapner didn't have much showmanship, and came across as a cranky old man when a witness said something stupid.
