Joseph D. Hooker

Joseph Hooker (1817-1911) was an English botanist who studied flowers in exotic locations such as Tasmania, the Antarctic, New Zealand, and India. He was, along with Charles Lyell, a friend of Charles Darwin and one of those who urged him to publish On the Origin of Species. He was the director of London's Kew Gardens from 1865 to 1885.
