| John R. Searle (1932 - ) - An American philosopher of mind and language who currently teaches at UC Berkeley. Searle is best known for his work on intentionality and speech acts and is famous for his Chinese Room proof.
Searle's work is influential in the areas of cognitive science and artificial intelligence. His philosophy is firmly based in the Anglo-American philosophical tradition and adheres strictly to formal logic and common sense - or Searle's view of common sense at least.
Searle has published numerous works and has been translated into twenty languages. His books are:
