The earliest and most reliable manuscripts do not include this section of the Gospel of John, but it's left in the book because of tradition and the need to remain consistent with older translations. A nitpick, but perhaps an important one, because while this account highlights the importance of forgiveness, some people use it as proof that Christ believed adultery was no crime. |
