A nickname for the GM four-cylinder engine which began life in 1980 in the GM X-car (e.g. Chevy Citation, Buick Skylark). The nickname for this all-cast-iron engine (block and head) was to distance itself from an earlier, smaller four-cylinder with an aluminum head with a stainless steel head gasket that would fail at temperature extremes. Its power output was generally between 90 and 92 horsepower and about 140 foot-pounds of low-down torque. There were both Chevy and Pontiac versions of this engine.
