Ilmarė is a
Maia in service to the
Vala Varda, in
J.R.R. Tolkien's mythology. Nothing is written about her in the text other than her
portfolio,
Handmaiden.
In the Lost Tales, Tolkien first wrote that she was the brother of Eonwė, and the two of them children of Manwe and Varda. Tolkien changed this when he better defined the means by which the Ainur could reproduce. If they wanted children (like Melian did), they would have to permanently assume earthly forms.
