Ice Dance is a sport based on ice skating and figure skating. There are several aspects. There are the athletic aspects that are very similar to those of ice skating. These include speed, agility, and fexibility. Another aspcet is that of dance. The skaters preform all the moves in pairs. The couple has to interpret the music and timing, as well as preforming intrecate moves, lifts and footwork. Ice dance is competed at the Regional (several states), Sectional (three in the US), National, and World level. Ice dance is an Olympic sport. Typically, the dancers must preform cumpulsory dances, similar to those of ballroom dancing, an original dance, with original steps, but set timing, and a free dance, in which anything goes. Ice dance is governed by the United States Figure Skating Association and the International Skating Union. |
