Ian Thomas

created by supernova

(person) by supernova (2.5 y) (print)   ?   (I like it!) Wed May 23 2001 at 1:27:24

Ian Thomas was a mapmaker for the U.S. Geological Survey until early 2001, when he was fired for making a map of caribou calving sites. The government claimed that he was fired for making a map that was completely outside his responsibility. However, there is some controversey as some people believe he was fired because the caribou calving sites coincide with the areas in which George W. Bush wants to drill for oil. The story of his firing (and the shady reasons behind it) has made its way into the news through e-mail and, most recently, it was featured in Doonesbury in mid-May, 2001.
