| This afternoon I attended a panel discussion of the ICANN North American candidates, which was sponsored by the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It took place in the Ames Courtroom in Austin Hall, which is always a pleasure to visit.
Six out of the seven North American candidates were there, and there was much disagreement about whether ICANN should set technical standards or make policy. Also in dispute was whether a board member should be an advocate for his/her constituency or a trustee serving the interests of ICANN as a whole.
Ostensibly, I was there to see what they had to say about the needs of nonprofit organizations, but I also amused myself by looking out for members of the Geek Elite. Unfortunately, most members of the audience seemed to be law students. |
